Ghosts do not exist

The supernatural has never ceded to interest me. The strange mishaps and coincidences that I have heard on TV shows and from scary stories fascinate me. However, are they real?
Personally, I'm afraid of the dark. I remember the first time I realized I didn't like my room when I couldn't see it. I was sitting in my bed. No one else was in my room and I might have had a slight fever. It was the middle of the night and I started to see pictures in the dark. I only remember one picture I saw but it was the most frightening thing to a little kid: a clown. A clown in a red car. And as soon as I saw that, you could bet that my heart was beating at 100 mph as I ran into my mom's room.

This was the perfect example of my eyes "playing tricks on me."

And this brings us back to the supernatural. Usually when you watch these supernatural shows, there are only re-enactments of what took place. And the actual experiences usually happen at night. Very rarely is there an instance (except UFOs) where a strange, unexplainable event happens during broad daylight. Now, I believe all "supernatural" happenings are due to "tired" eyes. Maybe I'm wrong but the proof that I experienced with "night-pictures" definitely proved to me why people see strange things.

Anyway, when I actually see a supernatural event that's not at night and if it's when I'm with people and NOT tired, maybe I'll believe in ghosts. But for now, I'm blaming our human fears on our human flaws.

Wow, this is a great post Gabby. I have to agree with you, what we perceive to be the supernatural could just be our eyes playing tricks on us. Or maybe we see what we consciously or subconsciously want to see (like UFOs). Or we only think it's real. Like you're lying in bed and you think there's a monster in your closet, but it's really just a shirt.
Yeah, me too. Until I'm sure that what I saw was the real deal and not just some illusion, I'll be less likely to believe it!

Hi, Gabby.
I experienced similar experiences when I was young. Those night images scared me so much that as soon as the lights were out, I could not open my eyes until I fell asleep. The "pictures" were worse for me because my vision gets extremely blurry without my glasses so I actually saw them 'moving.' Once, I thought I saw a ghost man pedaling a bike (it turned out to be my clothes that were hanging on the wall). I'm still extremely fearful of dark and ghosts. Even a few weeks ago, I didn't believe that ghosts existed although I was still scared of them. However, after seeing a Korean show related to shamans, my view on the existence of ghosts changed completely. (I'm writing about it on my blog).

I agree with what you said. I also do not believe that ghosts are real. They are merely our minds or eyes playing tricks on us. We think we may see a ghost, but its not really there. When someone is afraid or tired they think they see things. This is what happened to you when you thought you were seeing a clown in the dark. The only way I would believe in ghosts is if I saw one for myself. I have personally never seen a ghost, neither has anyone else to my knowledge. When I encountered I ghost(which I doubt anyone ever will) I will let you know.

Nice thoughts, although I don't agree completely. I don't believe in hauntings and I don't believe in a "sort-of-dead" state. I don't think that the supernatural should be completely ruled out, however. Personally, I believe in God, and I believe in the angels and demons described in the bible. I don't really know HOW they affect our world, but I definitely believe they are there. As for "ghosts", or the spiritual side of dead people floating around, my view is different. I don't think that a person can come back and so easily make contact with friends, family, or enemies. I think that is more of what people want to believe (or our minds playing tricks on us, as you put it)...or a conscience getting back at someone.

hey gabbs!!
i think that the supernatural is also really interesting. it is sometimes tough to believe it, and sometimes it is just your vision playing tricks on you. when i was little i refused to go to sleep in complete darkness and silence, because of all the stuffed animals and pictures around my room that created "night pictures" and such; even now i don't like a combination of silence and complete darkness when i go to bed.
but, i have to say that i do believe in ghosts, because i've used a oiuja board (with my sister and neighbor while my parents were out) on two consecutive nights and we were thoroughly freaked out. stupidly, we asked the spirit to show us a sign he was there, and the radio upstairs in my sister's room turned on almost immediately (she always messes up the alarm on it, but it turned on about an hour after the set alarm time). also, those tv shows have kind of proved to me that it's a bit more than the dark and exhaustion playing with our vision.
it is extremely possible - and likely - that many "supernatural" encounters people have are results of "tired eyes" or various amounts and types of paranoia.
