Alright, so i haven't updated this in a while on account of I only have the blog because of school and I avoid it at all costs unless I really nee to use it BUT... that might change. First, if you're really bored and have no life, or if you just happen to check my blog, go to pvdisorientation.blogspot.com. The PV theatre department might/probably will be performing a never before staged or directed or performed play entitled "Disorientation." The parts were created according to how many people are in our Theatre department and the play was written by a graduate of Park Ridge who goes by the name Manton (a combo of his first name Mike and his last name Anton). It's gonna be awesome...so you should check it out

...and oh, go see it when we perform it in April (if we do perform it). :)

CATCHER part 3!

AALLLLRRIIGHT...so...onto part 3333333...

SOO...onto the real stuff. The scene where Holden goes to the park, gets drunk, and then visits Pheobe is probably the climax of the book [for lack of a bigger climax] as well as the most revealing for Holden. Holden definitely feels rejected by everyone and I think he pretty much feels that he won't be accepted or taken in by anyone he goes to. Just like in many other books, the main character begins to feel like he has nothing to live for. But back to specifics. Because Holden has been wondering thoughout the whole book where the ducks go to in the winter, he decides to visit the park. When he gets there he finds that the ducks are all gone. Because he is drunk and has basically hit rock bottom this is a very strong symbolic moment. He looks to a place to find answers and all he finds is defeat. This is very much what happens when meets his older colleagues as well. Poor Holden, he can't get anything out of life, he can't get any answers he needs, and he can't vent. He's basically trying to hard to be someone else by acting older AND by doing this, his life is rapidly falling...
Pheobe is basically his soul-saver, the only person he answers to and his remedy, if you will. When he goes to see her, she is, at first, so excited to see him. Can't you just picture Holden with a giant smile on his face in this scene? His eyes would soften and his smile would melt when Pheobe gave him a hug... Anyway, Pheobe soon realizes that Holden "got the ax" and starts to come down hard on him. Holden feels bad for getting kicked out of school, but he probably feels it the most in this scene. I think Pheobe really brings out the best of him, but not just because she's a kid. It's something else about that Holden--Pheobe relationship. Something about her bubbly personality and smiling face that gets to Holden. And in the end, Pheobe is really Holden's savior. Holden realizes that he should try in life because it now has a purpose. If not just to save Pheobe from pain (as is demonstrated when Holden is "plotting" the ways he will die and says he is thankful for Pheobe forbidden to go to his "funeral"), it is to keep the good things he has in life (such as his family, his memories--especially of Allie--and the experiences he can constantly "chew the fat" with)...

PHEW. Overall, I think Holden's a good guy with many issues and who makes a great character in Catcher... :]

I would write more about certain parts of the book, but I fear my fingers might fall off! :]

CATCHER part 2!

Wowie, okay so i haven't updated this blog in a while and I appreciate your comments. My SECOND post is going to be in response to the comments I got on this blog....First, thanks for agreeing with me on many of my ideas. Also, Ashley, happy birthday!!

AND...i totally agree with you on the whole "he wants to act older than he is" thing because he definitely is trying to go for the older look. Be careful on that though, he doesn't want to act sophisticated or mature or anything, because, as illustrated with the incident between him and the character that asks him if he will "ever grow up," he obviously wants to hang out with the people who have gone through the same stuff as he has. Basically, I think he wants to vent and I agree that he accomplishes this by trying to fit into the older class. The problem with this, however, is that he is TOTALLY not as mature as his older colleagues and therefore, they do not want to converse with him...

ahh...well, Holden is just trying to have fun and get the most out of life...

Catcher in the Rye...

     I can't believe I'm blogging about a book, but hey, there's a first time for everything right? 

     Did anyone think the main character in Catcher in the Rye believes he can't get anything accomplished? He's a good character, really, but he's a little depressing...

     The book so far is really interesting, especially because of Holden's 'character relationships' with Ackley and his roommate. Ackley is such a funny character but a little obnoxious, especially when he comes into Holden's room when Holden is reading. 

     If Holden's brother was still alive, he would make a GREAT character...did anyone else think that? I thought the baseball mitt with poems in green writing was somewhat incongruous with Holden's character and thus showed Holden's soft side, especially when he was talking about showing Allie's mitt to Jane and opening up to her. It was kind of sad and unexpected when Jane did not open up to Holden when she was crying about some family issue. I as a reader thought that was a letdown because Jane's character would be more interesting to explore...

     What else can I blog about?? Anyone have any prediiiictions for the rest of the book? 'Cuz I can't see where this book about an expelled high school student who wants to be of legal drinking age is going!!!!
